We came to Roswell because…. The Truth Is Out There. Certainly everyone knows of the 1947 alien spaceship crash, the alien abduction, and our Government’s subsequent hush-up of the whole episode.
If somehow you’ve missed this historical event and/or never watched X Files, you must come to Roswell to see the International UFO Museum and Research Center. The museum is comprised of an extremely earnest and thorough collection of photographs, paper clippings and dioramas depicting the events of the spaceship crash, government officials’ and average Joes’ descriptions of what happened, subsequent recantations of said events, and even more subsequent deathbed confessions of the truth of the hushed-up events.
Pippi is being prepared for her first encounter
She seems critical of the display. It will clearly take more to convince her.
Perhaps the most wonderful aspect of this museum for me was that Pippi was allowed inside! So this was Pippi’s very first museum, and you can see for yourself her intense interest in one particular display case.
The Encountering! Woah! Now she knows...
Bottomless Lakes State Park, outside of Roswell, NM. At the request of--well, we can't say--any UFOs have been photoshopped out of this and all pictures on this page. I will note, though, that this picture was taken at midday.
No UFOs in this picture, either. We swear.
Probably not. Bottomless Lakes State Park was very cool but the water wasn't clear enough for snorkeling, which had been a hoped-for activity. The "Bottomless Lakes" are actually cenotes, AKA sinkholes, which often have clear water and are nice for diving. Not too far from where we were was a much clearer example popular among scuba divers, but we didn't have the time to visit there.
Much like our feelings about Carlsbad, but even moreso, there wasn't much to draw us there. Plus, we had our hopes set on Albuquerque or Santa Fe as being more interesting. But it was nice to finally see Roswell and learn the truth that They didn't want us to know.
